While the two-row Honda may go off-road, it does so with a bumpy ride and a top-heavy appearance due to its high ride height. The Passport has a smooth ride and responsive handling thanks to its straight steering. Our testing revealed a brisk 0-60 mph time of 6.0 seconds for the Passport, and it continues to impress with its rapid acceleration when on the open road.
The Passport has one EPA rating for front-wheel drive and another for the all-wheel industry, even though it only has one engine option. The EPA estimates that the front-wheel-drive model will achieve 20 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the Interstate. The EPA estimates 19 cities and 24 highway mpg for a Passport with all-wheel drive. The latter model achieved three mpg better fuel economy than its highway rating during our testing on our fuel-efficiency route at 75 mph. The refreshed Passport looks better and offers a more enjoyable driving experience. In the engine compartment is a reliable V6 unit, which provides adequate power and some welcome personality. The Passport is reassuringly steady to drive and well-suited to long-distance travel, but it is equally at home in the city. You can tell it’s a Honda because of the high quality of the cabin. The Passport excels at providing generous cabin space and, more importantly, the most cargo space in its class. Both the IIHS and NHTSA give this vehicle high marks for safety, and Honda equips all of its models with a broad list of standard driver assistance features.
