This unconventional design allows the Ridgeline to combine the spacious interior of an SUV with the towing capacity and payload capacity of a pickup truck. This reduces the Ridgeline’s off-road performance compared to the most aggressive variants from its competitors, but it gives the impression of being an imposing vehicle in the city. The only configuration of the Ridgeline is a four-door crew cab with a five-foot bed, and a 280-horsepower V-6 mated to a nine-speed automated transmission. It comes equipped with an all-wheel drive.
Traditional body-on-frame pickups capable of heavy towing and rugged off-roading have flooded the market for midsize vehicles. About 7.6 inches of space exists between the vehicle and the ground.
When it comes to customizing your base Ridgeline Sport, you don’t have a lot of options. Crystal Black Pearl and Lunar Silver Metallic are two of the free options. In the meantime, the vehicle’s base price is unchanged at $395. Alternative colors include Platinum White Pearl, Radiant Red Metallic II, and the brand new Sonic Gray Pearl. The RTL and RTL-E have no-cost additions to the standard color scheme, such as Modern Steel Metallic and Obsidian Blue Pearl. The premium color scheme now includes Pacific Pewter Metallic for an additional $395. The Black Edition is only available in Crystal Black Pearl, Platinum White Pearl, and Sonic Gray Pearl. Aside from that, the materials are acceptable. There is better space in the back than any other vehicle in its class, midsize or more significant. Since the center console is placed so low between the front seats, having armrests that fold down is a nice feature. The Honda truck has the second-smallest volume among its rivals at 34 cubic feet, and its bed length of only 5.3 feet is on par with its short competitors. The bed’s lockable, weather-proof in-bed trunk, hidden beneath the floor and accessed from above, helps to even things out. It can hold up to 7.3 cubic feet of stuff. In addition, the Ridgeline is the only midsize pickup whose bed can accommodate a sheet of four by eight-foot construction material lying flat on the bed floor, thanks to the generous 50.0 inches of space between the wheel wells. Inside, the ingenious design continues. The back seat folds in a 60/40 split to make space for a standard bicycle. Loading bulky stuff may be difficult because the rear doors don’t open very wide.
Actuators that cause vibrations to transform the cargo area into a massive speaker. The 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system is standard on every Ridgeline. Honda claims it is simpler to operate than its predecessor due to the addition of an actual volume knob and on-screen iconography. To date, we haven’t had access to the new Display Audio system or the opportunity to verify this claim. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration systems are also standard on the Ridgeline. Only a 3.5-liter V-6 engine producing 280 horsepower and 262 lb-ft of torque are available, and it is mated to a nine-speed automated transmission and standard all-wheel drive. The engine runs smoothly, and the car responds quickly when you press the accelerator pedal. As a driver, you’ll be surprised by Ridgeline’s nonconformist nature. It behaves itself and gives off an air of supreme competence while driving. The coil springs in their independent rear suspension contribute to a smoother, more car-like ride than competitors’ leaf springs and solid axle systems. Turning in requires almost no body lean, and even minor bumps are barely perceptible. The steering feels natural with the electronic assistance. One dynamic area where the Ridgeline falls short is in stopping distance. We thought the brake pedal was too soft and had too much travel when used commonly. Also, it took a long time to contain from 70 mph to zero.
The New 2024 Honda Ridgeline truck may be impressive, but it can’t haul too much. The Ridgeline can tow nearly 1600 pounds, which is on par with Colorado and just below what the Ranger can do. Standard all-wheel drive and a towing capacity of 5,000 pounds set the Ridgeline apart from competitors like the Chevrolet Colorado and the Ford Ranger, rated at 6,000 and 7,000 pounds, respectively.
With 18/24 mpg in the city and highway, the Ridgeline’s V-6 engine is the most efficient in its class. An all-wheel-drive Ridgeline achieved 28 mpg on our 75-mph fuel-economy route, which is representative of real-world highway driving and is part of our rigors testing regimen. The RTL and RTL-E are priced between the base and premium models at $40,620 and $43,570, respectively. If you want the Black Edition, be prepared to shell out $45,070 before adding any extras. The $1,225 destination fee is not included in the MSRP listed above.
Is The 2023 Honda Ridgeline A Good Truck?
It’s no secret that the US is the world’s leading producer of trucks and that for decades, the standard American pickup truck has been a body-on-frame design with a solid rear axle in the back. However, it’s precisely this difference that makes the new Honda Ridgeline pickup truck so good. With its innovative chassis and suspension architecture, this unibody truck provides excellent comfort for its occupants. It eliminates the truck-like driving experience, all while delivering many of the advantages of a mid-size truck and a highly adaptable load bed. Although the V6 engine is the only choice, it is a good one that provides plenty of power even with all the optional extras installed in the Ridgeline. There are a lot of conveniences and safety features for the driver and passengers that come standard, and the cabin is very friendly and comfy. The Ridgeline may fall short of more conventional alternatives in terms of off-road performance and towing capacity, but it more than makes up for it in every other respect.
