The Passport is pleasantly capable in many ways, though those who need more than two rows of seating may want to consider the three-row Honda Pilot, the Passport’s first cousin. All models feature cutting-edge driver assistance technology, from automatic cruise control to lane-keeping assistance. The sole source of propulsion is a robust V-6 engine, which is not particularly efficient but delivers measured acceleration. The 2024 Passport isn’t particularly fun to drive, and it has a bumpy ride at times, but it’s a practical and convenient way to transport large groups of people and their belongings, so it made our Editors’ Choice list.
One of our primary concerns with the Passport has been its bland exterior, but for 2024, Honda plans to fix that. Featuring a unique 18-inch wheel and tire setup, the new TrailSport model furthers the off-road aesthetic. Its chunkier grille, more squared-off profile, and new, more rugged front and rear bumpers give it a more assertive appearance up front. Honda claims the vehicle’s increased stability results from its slightly wider show and rear tracks. In addition to the EX-L trim’s new contrast stitching on its leather-appointed seats, the rest of the lineup also benefits from subtle changes, such as a new standard rear-seat reminder. You can now get the Honda Performance Development (HDP) look package on your Passport, just like you can on the Honda Ridgeline. This package includes a unique grille, black fender flares, specific wheels, and an HDP graphic on the rear fenders.
New 2024 Honda Passport Redesign
The exterior design of the Passport SUV has always been understated, but that hasn’t prevented it from being anything other than forgettable rather than the hideous vehicle on the road. The new aggressive front end, new grille, bumpers, and power-bulge hood found on this year’s models are, therefore, very much appreciated. Even the bumpers have been modified, and the exhaust finishers are now much more noticeable. LED brake lights, rear privacy glass, dual-exit exhaust, and smart programmable remote entry are all standard on the base model. Except for the new TrailSport, which features off-road-focused two-tone 18-inch alloy wheels with beefy 245/60R18 tires, all models ride on 20-inch split-spoke alloy wheels. There is orange “TrailSport” badging in addition to the black “Passport” and “AWD” lettering. All models have standard power moonroofs, power liftgates, and memory-linked side mirrors. Particularly for the Elite, there is a hands-free tailgate. All but the base model come standard with front and rear parking sensors, and the TrailSport and Elite get roof rails.
The Honda Passport is a midsize sport utility vehicle (SUV) that, at first glance, appears even more significant than rivals like the Chevrolet Blazer and Subaru Outback. The Passport’s starting weight ranges from 4,057 to 4,236 pounds (front-wheel drive to all-wheel drive). The Elite, the heavy-duty model, weighs in at a maximum of 4,262 pounds and is available exclusively with all-wheel drive. The ground clearance for FWD vehicles is 7.5 inches, while AWD vehicles have a generous 8.1 inches. Approach and departure angles for FWD models are 20 and 23.4 degrees, while those for AWD vehicles are 21 and 24.3 degrees, respectively.
The 2024 Honda Passport offers a subtle palette of exterior hues to complement its refined design. Crystal Black Pearl, Lunar Silver Metallic, Obsidian Blue Pearl, and three $395 premium colors—Radiant Red Metallic, Sonic Gray Pearl, and Platinum White Pearl—are available on the base Elite models. For a more subdued look, choose the Lunar Silver Metallic, but if you’re daring, go for the Radiant Red. TrailSport no longer comes in Obsidian Blue.

The interior is pleasant, but some jerking may be felt due to the stiffer suspension. Also, the cabin is quiet enough and comes with standard automatic climate control for three zones.
The Passport was designed around a three-row vehicle but only provided two rows of seats, so there is a large amount of cargo capacity in the back, which is a significant selling point for this SUV. When you open the liftgate on a Passport, you’ll find a big cargo area measuring 41.2 cubic feet, easily accommodating the bulky items, large pets, and other items that Passport owners frequently transport. Compared to being able to tow up to 5000 pounds, the Passport’s ground clearance is 7.5 inches (or 8.1 inches for all-wheel-drive models). The two-row Honda has a high ride height contributing to its top-heavy appearance and a rough ride when driven off-road. In our testing, the Passport quickly reached 60 miles per hour and faithfully accelerated on the highway. The Passport is easy to drive on most roads, and the directness of its steering gives the impression that it is quick.
The Passport has two EPA ratings due to its single available engine and available front- or all-wheel drive configurations. This front-wheel-drive version can achieve up to 20 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. The EPA estimates 19 cities and 24 highway mpg for a Passport with all-wheel drive. The latter model achieved three mpg more fuel economy than its highway rating during testing on our fuel-economy route at 75 mph. Check the EPA’s site for specifics on the Passport’s gas mileage.

The New 2024 Honda Passport price varies widely between trim levels, making it possible to find a model that works within almost any spending plan. The 2024 Honda Passport EX-L FWD base model has a starting MSRP of $37,870 (not including $1,225 for destination). Adding AWD will set you back an extra $2,100. Next are the $42,470 TrailSport, 4WD only, and the $45,430 Elite. When fully loaded, the Elite will be very close to $50k. Finding a reliable pre-owned 2024 Honda Passport for significantly less than the base price of a brand new one shouldn’t be difficult. Honda will introduce the next-generation Passport in May of 2024.
