2024 Honda Prologue Design, Specs, Release Date – In 2024, Honda plans to release the Prologue SUV as their second try at an EV (following the failed Clarity sedan). This time, the company’s efforts promise to be competitive due to a joint development agreement with General Motors. Some details, such as the powertrain and driving range, still need to be updated. Still, now that Honda has published official photos, we can see the Prologue’s styling and interior appointments and get a sense of its overall size. It will be placed above the CR-V and have comparable dimensions to the Passport, Honda’s midsize SUV. Aesthetically, the façade is very tasteful in its simplicity. The Prologue depicted has essential LED lighting, 21-inch wheels, and a panoramic sunroof. The interior takes after other Honda vehicles, including a tablet-style infotainment display, a minimalist dashboard, and a clean, central stack. The Prologue will travel on a platform co-developed with GM; the vehicle will be powered by modified versions of the Ultium battery packs found in GM’s other new electric cars, such as the Blazer EV, with which it appears the Prologue shares components. If the Blazer’s specifications are any indication, anticipate a driving range of around 250–320 miles per charge based on the configuration. Acura, Honda’s premium division, is also planning to release its version of the Prologue, probably called the ZDX.
Although Honda has yet to announce official pricing and customization levels for the Prologue, we anticipate the new model to begin at around $45,000. Honda’s traditional LX, EX, EX-L, and Touring trim levels will likely appear here, but we will know which one will represent the best value once those details are published.
2024 Honda Prologue Design
Like the rest of Honda’s SUV lineup, the Honda Prologue has a clean and discreet external design. It’s not unconventional, but its posture is square, comprehensive, and sure. Rear and three-quarter views reveal a striking similarity to the Range Rover Evoque, which is an unusual comparison when praising a Honda’s styling. The new Honda Prologue SUV takes design cues from the Evoque, with a darkened band between the taillight clusters and the impression of a low roofline contributing to an overall sporty appearance. The wheels, at 21 inches in diameter, are similarly massive compared to the vehicle’s chassis. Honda characterizes the design philosophy as “neo-rugged,” focusing on smooth, uncluttered lines.
The Honda EV inspired the front face—nothing flashy or showy here, just a plain grille and headlamp clusters that go well together. There is a vast glass panorama dome up there. Honda claims North Shore Pearl was “inspired by the raw beauty and colors near Lake Tahoe in California.” However, the company has not revealed the Prologue’s complete range of exterior colors. That’s a lot of words to use to characterize what most people would recognize as white. It may not be as daring as a Chevy Blazer EV, but it’s nice to see a design that doesn’t get people talking, for better or worse.
The Honda Prologue is more significant than the new CR-V and smaller than the Passport, making it a midsize SUV. The length of 192 inches is about eight inches longer than the CR-V, and the breadth of 78.3 inches is about five inches wider than the CR-V. The Prologue has a height of 64.7 inches and a length of 121.8 inches. Even though Honda hasn’t said it, we anticipate it will weigh more than a comparable gas-powered SUV. The Cadillac Lyriq is another option; Ultium batteries power it and, despite being 4.7 inches longer, comes in at a hefty 5,610 pounds. While we don’t anticipate the Prologue to weigh more than 5,000 pounds at the curb, its lower expected premium feature content suggests it will still be heavy.
Although Chevrolet’s influence can be felt throughout the 2024 Honda Prologue cockpit, Honda did an excellent job giving the car its identity. The Blazer EV’s fancy dashboard design features round vents, vividly colored surfaces, and a diagonal infotainment display, but this vehicle’s dashboard is much more stripped down. Instead, it takes cues from the Honda Civic and Honda Passport, two of the company’s other vehicle lines, sharing a minimalist design in subdued tones. In addition, Honda says the Prologue’s wheelbase is 8.0 inches longer than the CR-V’s and that the EV model is 5.0 inches wider too, so we’re anticipating a roomier cabin with extra space for cargo.
The Prologue’s 11.30-inch infotainment display takes center stage on the dashboard. Will the system use a skinned version of GM’s Google-based system or a version of Honda’s newest software user interface? We anticipate amenities like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto wireless connectivity, in-dash navigation, a Wi-Fi hotspot, and a wireless charging station for mobile devices to be standard, no matter the vehicle. Photos also suggest the 11.0-inch digital gauge monitor is standard equipment. Images show a Bose stereo with tweeter speakers in the A-pillars of the Prologue, but we anticipate a non-branded stereo with fewer speakers as the base option.
We don’t have any confirmed details yet, but the Prologue will be available with either a single or a pair of motors. While competitors like the Chevy Blazer EV offer front-, rear-, and all-wheel-drive configurations, whether the Prologue will offer as many choices is still being determined. However, the photos clearly show AWD, so the badges are legit. The Cadillac Lyriq (with 500 hp) and the Chevrolet Blazer EV (557 hp) can reach 60 miles per hour in under four seconds when equipped with their most potent engines. Though Honda could go the more subdued path with the Prologue, we anticipate it will still have more than enough power to outrun the current gas-powered Passport easily. We will learn more about the Prologue’s engine options in the coming months.
Honda, like the powertrain, hasn’t claimed anything about the Prologue’s range or MPGe number. If the Prologue has the same excellent range as the forthcoming Blazer EV, both of which use Ultium batteries, it will have about 320 miles. Expect to add around 78 miles of range in 10 minutes with the Prologue, as the Blazer EV and Lyriq have a high charging rate of 190 kW. It’s important to have compatibility for Level 1 DC charging and Level 2 AC charging.
2024 Honda Prologue Release Date and Price
The 2024 Honda Prologue will debut in 2024, ideally before the end of the year. Interestingly, Honda sees the new CR-V Hybrid as a stepping stone to the Prologue. As a result, it will offer short-term lease programs in select states to smooth the transition of hybrid customers to the all-electric Prologue.
There currently needs to be word on how much the 2024 Honda Prologue will cost, but given that it will be sold in tandem with the Passport, we don’t anticipate a significant price difference. We estimate the 2024 Prologue to cost around $45,000, based on the Passport’s starting MSRP of $41,100 in the USA. Price estimates range from $40,000 to $60,000. Badging in the images suggests an Elite trim will be offered; if so, the Prologue could follow the Passport’s EX-L and Elite trim construction; will there also be a Prologue TrailSport? What happens next is uncertain.
