2024 Honda HR-V Release Date, AWD, Redesign – Honda doesn’t usually settle for just good enough, but the outgoing HR-V might be an exception. The interior was refined, the cabin was OK but a touch tinny, the power was just average, and the back seats were too tiny for youngsters to grow into. The little crossover was built on the Honda Fit’s basis. The new Honda HR-V has been completely redesigned for the American market (the rest of the world gets a smaller model) based on the latest generation of Honda’s excellent Civic chassis. The smaller 1.8-liter engine has been swapped out for a more powerful 2.0-liter i-VTEC four-cylinder producing 158 horsepower and 138 lb-ft of torque. The cabin is more excellent than ever and has the most up-to-date Honda technologies for entertainment and safety. We drove to Washington state and Oregon to test the new Honda HR-V.
If you need a compact SUV at a reasonable price, the new 2024 Honda HR-V is worth considering. In comparison to its before, the revised HR-V is a superior SUV. The inside of the HR-V is well-appointed, with comfortable seating for five people across three rows, a roomy trunk, and a straightforward multimedia system. It’s surprisingly comfortable on bumpy and uneven terrain for such a small SUV, making it a delight to drive on twisty roads. Standard equipment on the HR-V includes Apple CarPlay and adaptive cruise control. However, the HR-four-cylinder V’s engine has trouble quickly getting this SUV up to speed.
Honda has updated the HR-V for 2024, so it can compete with the many stylish and inexpensive subcompact SUVs.Though its predecessor was functional and reasonably priced, it fell short of competitors like the Hyundai Kona, Kia Seltos, and Mazda CX-30. So, it shouldn’t be surprising that the new HR-V looks very different from the old one. The new HR-V is built on the same architecture as the Civic and is powered by the same 2.0-liter inline-four found in Honda’s small sedan.

2024 Honda HR-V Redesign
It would help if you kept looking out the window into the driveway to remember how the last generation HR-V looked. The new one is better because Honda’s most recent design trends were used to make it. The wider track, lower belt line, and new fenders on the subcompact car give it a new, more confident look. The HR-front V’s end is elegant thanks to the thin patterned grille, and slim Accord-style LED headlamps. The roof no longer has any moldings, and the windshield wipers are hidden out of sight.
Depending on the trim class you choose, the honeycomb matte-finished front grille is replaced by a horizontal design grille, and the 17-inch silver-painted alloy wheels are replaced by 18-inch split five-spoke wheels on the Sport trim or 17-inch Shark Grey alloy wheels on the HR-V EX-L. Chrome exhaust tips make the Sport stand out, while the sunroof on the EX-power L is a luxury feature for the top trim level. There is rear privacy glass in both the top-tier and the deluxe models.
There are seven distinct hues to choose from, some exclusive to higher trim tiers. For an extra $395, you can get all models in Crystal Black, Lunar Silver, Modern Steel, and Platinum White Pearl. Aegean Blue and Milano Red are two more colors for the Sport package. Midnight Amethyst Metallic replaces Milano Red as an option on the EX level and costs $395. For the top-of-the-line EX-L model, you can choose any color you want except for Milano Red.

Interior
The 2024 Honda HR-V takes cues for its updated interior from the recently remodeled Honda Civic, timeless and stylish. The front seats provide a high level of adjustability and comfort. The previous generation included Honda’s innovative second-row Magic Seat, which can flip and fold to make the back bench seat very flat and low to the ground. Even though it’s relatively small, the HR-Load V’s capacity is the best in its class, thanks to this feature. The new HR-V does away with that capability, but Honda says the cargo area is more expansive, and the lift-over height is lower, so it should be easier to carry bulky objects.
CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on all trims, and the bigger 9.0-inch screen, which includes wireless connectivity for both functions, is exclusive to the top EX-L level. The EX-L also has a wireless charging station as standard equipment. In addition, we anticipate the availability of amenities like SiriusXM Satellite Radio, in-dash navigation, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
Engine
The old HR-V didn’t have the calm agility we expected from Hondas, but the new one makes up for it using the chassis from the lively Civic. Even though the European and Japanese versions of the HR-V use a hybrid powertrain based on the Insight and Accord, the American version uses a regular gasoline 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 158 horsepower. If that sounds familiar, it’s because the Honda Civic uses the same engine as its standard drivetrain. Since the HR-V conveys its platform with the Civic, a 180-horsepower turbocharged 1.5-liter or a hybrid powertrain may be added to the range. The HR-2.0-liter V’s four-cylinder engine seems sluggish and lacks guts. All grades come standard with front-wheel drive and a CVT, but all-wheel drive is an optional upgrade.
Although Hill Descent Control is not standard on the HR-V, Honda’s Real Time AWD technology is, and it was installed on our test vehicle. The HR-V offers three primary driving modes: Normal, Snow, and Econ. The Normal setting does exactly what it says. In contrast, the Snow setting modifies the throttle response, adjusts the gearbox and AWD for slippery situations, and disables the auto engine stop/start. Like other Honda models, the Econ model adjusts the throttle input ratio, and the air conditioning employs a more efficient cycle to improve fuel economy. In this setting, the EPA estimates that the two-wheel-drive vehicles will get 26/32/28 mpg city/highway/combined, while the all-wheel-drive variants will get 25/30/27 mpg.
2024 Honda HR-V Release Date and Price
The starting MSRP for the all-new 2024 Honda HR-V is $33,650. It’s a little above the norm for the subcompact SUV category. However, the fully-loaded price of an HR-V is only $28,950, which is significantly cheaper than that of several leading competitors. After the little CR-V and the midsize Passport and Pilot, Honda’s HR-V is the smallest SUV it offers. The 2024 Honda HR-V is scheduled to debut in the summer of that year in the United States.
