2024 Honda HR-V EX-L Release Date, Colors, AWD – If you’re examining a compact SUV at a reasonable price, the new 2024 Honda HR-V is worth considering. Generally speaking, the new HR-V is a superior SUV to its predecessor. The HR-V has a high-quality cabin with spacious seating for five, a user-friendly infotainment system, and comfortable front and rear seats. It’s a rarity among compact SUVs, yet it’s lively and fun to drive on twisty roads, and it even provides a smooth ride over potholes and other road imperfections. Apple CarPlay and adaptive cruise control are just two of the many standard features on the HR-V. The HR-biggest V’s drawback is that its four-cylinder engine has trouble quickly bringing this SUV up to speed.
The previous model of the HR-V might be considered “just good enough” for Honda. The interior was acceptable; the cabin was a touch tinny; the power was satisfactory, but the rear seats were too tiny for children to grow into, and the little crossover was built on the Honda Fit’s foundation. The new Honda HR-V has been completely redesigned for the American market (the rest of the world gets a smaller model) and is based on the chassis of the most recent iteration of Honda’s Civic. The smaller 1.8-liter engine has been swapped out for a more powerful 2.0-liter i-VTEC four-cylinder that produces 159 horsepower and 138 lb-ft of torque. Honda’s newest entertainment and safety technologies are included in its upgraded cabin. To test the latest generation of Honda HR-V, we drove from Oregon to Washington and back again.
In 2024, the Honda HR-V will debut in an all-new form, directly responding to the glut of attractive and fashionable subcompact SUVs. The previous iteration was functional and affordable, but it fell short of the Hyundai Kona, the Kia Seltos, and the Mazda CX-30, which dominate the compact crossover market. This explains why the new HR-V looks so different from its predecessor. Honda’s latest crossover SUV is built on the same chassis as the Civic and is powered by the same 2.0-liter inline-four engine used in the company’s small cars.
2024 Honda HR-V EX-L Redesign
Keeping track of the old HR-V looks like it requires frequent glances out the window into the driveway. The new one benefits significantly from Honda’s most recent design trends. The subcompact car’s new, more confident appearance results from its wider track, lower belt line, and redesigned fenders. The HR-front V’s fascia exudes sophistication with details like the delicately patterned grille, and the slim, Accord-inspired LED headlamps. The roof no longer has any moldings, and the windshield wipers are hidden out of sight.
Depending on the model you choose, the front grille will either be a honeycomb matte-finished section with a horizontal design, 18-inch split five-spoke wheels painted silver on the Sport trim, or 17-inch alloy wheels painted Shark Grey on the HR-V EX-L. While the top-of-the-line EX-L trim features a motorized sunroof, the Sport adds chrome exhaust tips to make it unique. Privacy glass is standard on both of the higher trim levels.
There are seven distinct hues to choose from, some exclusive to higher-end trims. All models come in Crystal Black, Lunar Silver, Modern Steel, and Platinum White Pearl, with the latter being offered for an additional $395. Two new hues, Aegean Blue and Milano Red complement the Sport package. Midnight Amethyst Metallic is available for $395 on the EX level in addition to Milano Red, which is no longer offered. Even if Milano Red isn’t an option, you may still get the top-tier EX-L in any other color you choose.
The HR-V takes cues for its updated interior from the recently remodeled Honda Civic, timeless and stylish. The front seats provide a high level of adjustability and comfort. The previous generation included Honda’s ingenious Magic Seat in the second row, which could be folded and flipped to provide an exceptionally flat floor. Because of the innovation, the HR-V has the most cargo space in its class despite its compact dimensions. But Honda says the new HR-V’s cargo space is more significant, and the lift-over height is lower, making it easier to carry large items.
Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard on all models’ infotainment systems’ touchscreen displays, with wireless connectivity available on the more extensive 9.0-inch panel found only in the top EX-L trim. The EX-L also has a wireless charging station as standard equipment. Features like SiriusXM satellite radio, in-dash navigation, and a Wi-Fi hotspot are also likely to be included, if only as add-ons.
In most markets, the HR-V is powered by a hybrid powertrain derived from the Insight and Accord. However, the U.S. market model is equipped with a more conventional gasoline 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, producing 158 horsepower. If that sounds familiar, it’s because the Honda Civic uses the same engine as its standard powerplant. Since the HR-V conveys its platform with the Civic, a 180-horsepower turbocharged 1.5-liter or a hybrid engine might be added to the range in the future. Currently, all trims come standard with a front-wheel drive and a continuously variable automatic gearbox (CVT), but an all-wheel industry is a configurable option. The 2.0-liter four-cylinder in the HR-V seems sluggish and gutless. The old HR-V didn’t have the calm agility we expected from Hondas, but the new one makes up for it using the chassis from the lively Civic.
The HR-V comes standard with front-wheel drive, but our test vehicle was outfitted with Honda’s Real Time AWD system, including Hill Descent Control. The HR-V has three primary driving modes: normal, snow, and eco. The Normal setting does exactly what you’d expect it to, while the Snow setting dampens the throttle response, optimizes the gearbox and AWD for icy situations, and disables the car’s auto-start/stop feature. Like other Honda vehicles, the Econ adjusts the throttle input ratios and employs a more efficient air conditioning cycle to maximize economy. All-wheel-drive variants get an estimated 25/30/27 mpg in city/highway/combined driving, while the two-wheel-drive versions get 26/32/28 mpg.

The HR-V is the smallest SUV offered by Honda, coming in behind the tiny CR-V and the midsize Passport and Pilot. The starting MSRP of the brand new 2024 Honda HR-V is $23,650. That’s a little more than the norm for the subcompact SUV category. However, the fully equipped price of an HR-V is only $28,950, which is far cheaper than many of its top competitors. It is anticipated that the 2024 Honda HR-V will debut in the summer of that year in the United States.
