2024 Honda HR-V Colors, Changes, Price – Rarely does Honda produce a merely good product, yet the prior-generation HR-V may be classified as such. The compact crossover was based on the platform of the Honda Fit; the interior was refined; the cabin was OK, but a bit hollow; the power was adequate; and the back seats were too small for growing children. The next generation of the HR-V is exclusive to the United States (the rest of the world gets a smaller model). It receives a ground-up redesign based on Honda’s latest and most superb Civic chassis, with a larger 2.0-liter i-VTEC four-cylinder engine producing 158 horsepower and 138 lb-ft of torque. The inside is plusher than before and boasts the most recent entertainment and safety technologies from Honda. We traveled to Washington State and Oregon for the initial test drive to evaluate the new Honda HR-V.
The new 2024 Honda HR-V is an excellent choice if you’re looking for a tiny, budget-friendly SUV. The revamped HR-V is a significantly better SUV than its predecessor, but it is not quite the class leader. The HR-V has a luxurious interior with comfortable first-and second-row seats, a spacious cargo area, and an intuitive entertainment system. It is elegant and exciting to drive on twisty roads, yet it provides a comfortable ride over bumpy and uneven ground—a rarity among compact SUVs. The HR-V comes standard with Apple CarPlay and adaptive cruise control, among other amenities. The HR-four-cylinder V’s engine struggles to propel this SUV to highway speeds with any sense of urgency.
Honda has redesigned the HR-V for 2024 to compete with the deluge of attractive small SUVs that have invaded the market. The preceding model was functional and offered a reasonable value, but it trailed behind the market leaders in practically every way: the Hyundai Kona, the Kia Seltos, and the Mazda CX-30. It is therefore not surprising that the new HR-V appears drastically different from the previous model. The 2.0-liter naturally aspirated inline-four engine from the Civic compact sedan is used in the new HR-V.

The previous model, the HR-V, necessitates frequent glances out the window into the driveway to recall its appearance. The new model incorporates Honda’s most recent design elements to its advantage. It sports a wider track, a lower belt line, and sculpted fenders to make the subcompact appear more confident. The HR-front-end V’s design is elegant thanks to its small patterned grille and sleek LED headlights inspired by the Accord. The windshield wipers are now concealed, and there are no roof moldings, contributing to the leaner appearance.
Your choice of trim increases the 17-inch silver-painted alloy wheels to 18-inch split five-spoke wheels on the Sport trim and Shark Grey 17-inch alloy wheels on the HR-V EX-L. The Sport is distinguished by its chrome exhaust tips, while the EX-L gains a power sunroof. Both top variants include rear privacy glass with tinting.
There are seven color options, with some reserved for specific trim levels. The series is available in Crystal Black, Lunar Silver, Modern Steel, and Platinum White Pearl for an additional $395. The Sport package is offered in two hues: Aegean Blue and Milano Red. Midnight Amethyst Metallic, which costs $395, is now available for the EX, although Milano Red is no longer available. The EX-L variant can be obtained in any color except for Milano Red.
The HR-V uses a more contemporary interior design, influenced by the rebuilt Civics; it is both classic and appealing. The front seats are supportive, comfy, and adjustable to a great extent. The departing model featured Honda’s innovative second-row Magic Seat, which allowed the rear bench to turn and fold to produce a shallow and flat floor. This feature permitted the HR-V to achieve segment-leading load capacity despite its compact size. The new HR-V doesn’t have this feature, but Honda says that the cargo space is bigger and the lift-over height is lower to make it easier to load heavy things.
All models have a 7.0- or 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Still, only the top EX-L grade has wireless connectivity for these features on the larger display. In addition, the EX-L comes with a wireless smartphone charging station. We expect to see optional features like SiriusXM satellite radio, in-dash navigation, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
The previous version of the HR-V lacked the quiet athleticism we’ve expected from Hondas, but this new iteration rectifies that with a Civic-derived chassis. The HR-V is propelled by a hybrid powertrain derived from the Insight and Accord, although the U.S. model is equipped with a conventional 2.0-liter four-cylinder gasoline engine producing 158 horsepower. If that sounds familiar, it’s because the Civic uses the same engine as its standard powerplant. Since the HR-V shares its venue with the Civic, a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine or a hybrid powertrain might be added to the lineup. A front-wheel drive and a continuously variable automatic transmission (CVT) are standard, but an all-wheel industry is an optional option on all model levels.
Front-wheel drive is standard on the HR-V, but our test vehicle had the optional Real Time AWD system with Hill Descent Control installed. Normal, Snow, and Econ are the three primary driving modes on the HR-V. Normal is self-explanatory, whereas Snow mode softens throttle response, boosts gearbox and AWD adjustments for slippery situations, and disables the automatic engine stop/start feature. Like other Honda models, the Econ modifies the input ratios for the throttle to enhance efficiency and employs a more efficient air conditioning cycle. In this mode, two-wheel-drive models achieve an estimated 26/32/28 mpg city/highway/combined, while all-wheel-drive models achieve an estimated 25/30/27 mpg.
2024 Honda HR-V Price and Release Date
The introductory MSRP for the 2024 Honda HR-V is $23,650. This is slightly above the norm for subcompact SUVs. In contrast, the fully loaded price of the HR-V is $28,950, which is far cheaper than many top competitors. The HR-V is positioned at the bottom of Honda’s SUV lineup, below the compact CR-V and the midsize Passport and Pilot. The anticipated delivery date for the 2024 Honda HR-V in the United States is summer 2024.
