What can we expect from the 2024 Civic? The cinematic version of this story would be titled “Return of the Hybrid.” Honda’s lineup was missing the Civic Hybrid, a staple since the early 2000s, until the release of the second-generation Insight. However, Insight’s baseline hybrid powertrain was capable of up to 52 mpg, so it was more than just a restyled and rebadged Civic. Since Insight is no longer in production, Honda appears eager to revive the Civic as a hybrid vehicle.
Honda has stated that the hybrid version of the 2024 Civic will be available as both a sedan and a hatchback, giving customers a wide range of options. It is expected to achieve a combined city/highway fuel economy of around 50 mpg, putting it on par with rivals like the Toyota Corolla Hybrid, Toyota Prius, and Hyundai Elantra Hybrid. The remaining Civic lineup will stay the same or receive only modest updates to available features. The high-performance Type R model and the sporty Si version must be maintained. 2024 Honda Civic Redesign
Honda’s designers toned down the Civic Sedan’s exterior look from the previous generation. Instead of simply improving upon the design of the prior iteration, they examined each iteration in detail. The new 2024 Honda Civic was designed to share many characteristics with the previous generation, including the long, low, and thin body; the broad stance; and the glassy cabin with the low beltline. Overall, the outcome is more appealing and less likely to raise controversy than Gen. 10. Its “glassy” interior is accompanied by a blunt nose and retracted A-pillars. The only thing left to see is if Honda’s hard work was appreciated by its target audience.
Automatic LED headlights and door handles that match the body color are standard on all variants. The base LX model has 16-inch steel wheels covered in plastic, while the higher trim levels ride on 17- or 18-inch alloy wheels. The Honda Civic Sport, for example, distinguishes itself with a chrome exhaust finisher and black side mirrors, while the top-tier Touring model is determined by its LED foglights. Power moonroofs are now standard on the EX and Touring models.
Most of the previous model year’s color options for the new Civic have been carried over. Rallye Red, Aegean Blue, Platinum White ($395), Lunar Silver, Crystal Black, and Sonic Gray Pearl are some well-known colors available. Meteorite Gray and Morning Mist Blue are two new colors added to the existing palette. These fresh ones are available for an additional $90.
There are two external dimensions that the Eleventh Generation retains from its predecessor. The length is the same at 70.9 inches, and the height is the same at 55.7 inches. Thanks to its appearance, the new Honda looks like a more fortified vehicle than before. The overall length is 184.5 inches, and the wheelbase is 107.7 inches, an increase of 1.4 inches. The new Civic is heavier than its predecessor, which is a drawback. The previous entry-level model weighed 2,771 pounds, while the most recent one tips the scales at 2,877. The Civic now has the highest maximum weight in its entire production run, at over 3,000 pounds. Both the EX and Touring variants tip the scales at 3,004 lb.
Interior
A full-width honeycomb-patterned mesh design element neatly conceals the air vents in the dashboard, which otherwise features clean lines indicative of the streamlined interior design. The new model’s wide center console has a deep storage bin in front of the shift lever, making it easier to find small items like phones, keys, and munchies. Honda claims the inside is about the same size for passengers but has more room in the trunk.
The 2024 Honda Civic base infotainment display is a 7.0-inch touchscreen, although a 9.0-inch unit and a 10.2-inch digital gauge display are available as upgrades. The built-in CarPlay and Android Auto systems allow wireless connectivity with a more prominent display. There is also an available Bose sound system, wireless phone charging, and in-dash navigation.
Engine
The Civic was updated for 2022; however, the available engines are the same as in the outgoing model. The base model arrives with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 158 horsepower, while the optional engine is a 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbocharged to produce 180 horsepower. Only a front-wheel-drive version of the new Civic is available. We regret to inform you that the manual transmission option for the previous generation Civic sedan will no longer be available beginning in 2022. However, the hatchback version still has a manual transmission with six gears.
Our turbocharged Touring sedan needed 7.5 seconds to hit 60 mph on the test course, which is slower than the result of the previous generation Civic. The Sport Touring hatchback with a manual transmission was marginally faster, reaching 60 mph in 7.3 seconds. Thankfully, the responsive steering, comfortable ride, and well-balanced handling we liked in the previous generation are all carried over here. The EPA estimates that the new Honda Civic EX, the mid-range trim, achieves 33 city mpg, 42 highway mpg, and 36 combined mpg. The hybrid model’s estimated fuel economy has yet to be released. 2024 Honda Civic Release Date and Price
There will be a $22,750 base price for the 2024 Honda Civic. The asking price for this version will be higher than its predecessors. There needs to be more information regarding the available upgrade packages and extras for the vehicle. The new and improved Honda Civic, which will hit the market in November of 2023, is an all-new model for 2024.
Is Honda’s Civic a reasonable price? The Honda Civic’s higher price tag is warranted by its superior performance, commendable fuel economy, a few extras, and noticeably more excellent interior compared to the Kia Forte and Toyota Corolla.
